FLEA and ABBY TRAVIS added to WAR STORIES !

JUST ADDED! Two LA Punk Rock MVP's have joined the cast of WAR STORIES to share their own tales of music, mayhem and magick with us. ABBY TRAVIS, who's played bass with The Lovedolls, The Go-Go's and KMFDM will share bad-girl gossip alongside the inimitable, funky FLEA, who rose from the rough & tumble club circuit to stadiums with the band he co-founded, the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

War Stories is a raucous evening of off-the cuff storytelling by some of the wildest, loudest and most influential punk rock, new wave and rock’n’roll icons. The line up is specially curated and presented by Pleasant Gehman and Theresa Kereakes -- the duo behind the '70s LA punk rock zine Lobotomy.

"Many of us have known each other for decades: we’ve hung out, played music and gotten drunk together; a few of us were longtime roommates. We’ve played shows with each other and have been on the road together (back in the day as well as more recently) bringing our “OG” punk essence to other cities, states and countries.  We’ve all set the bar for contemporary music, raised all kinds of hell, broken laws constantly and gleefully…. and we’ve lived to tell, in fact, many of us have also actually written books chronicling the wild times.

This show is about our insane stories…and YOU GET TO HEAR ALL ABOUT IT! "

The WAR STORIES We Could Tell

On October 7 (it's a Sunday and the next day is "Columbus Day," so the banks and Federal offices are closed... you might have a day off - so come and enjoy yourself)... a handful of OG Los Angeles punks will gather at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip for a story-telling round.

This is "old home week" for us collaborators.  Pleasant Gehman (co-host/co-curator) and I both worked down the street at the Whisky a GoGo during our late teens and early twenties (though at different times), and have promoted shows independently at both the Whisky and the Roxy.  Both clubs are owned by the same people.  Two of the co-owners have passed away - Elmer Valentine and Mario Maglieri. Surviving partner, the legendary Lou Adler, his son and Mario's son now run these businesses as well as the Rainbow Bar & Grill, located next door to the Roxy.  The Sunset Strip scene has always been one big family - from the club owners to the patrons and performers.

These clubs were playgrounds for everyone - the glitterati and gutterati alike. Pop culture central.  The Rainbow parking lot, in between the Bar & Grill and the Roxy, had its own after-closing-time scene where patrons of all the Strip joints would gather to see and be seen.

Oh - I'm not giving you any details here!  Pleasant and I will share these stories in vibrant and juicy detail on October 7.

self and Pleasant, on the airwaves! 2016

Join us and Chip Kinman, Dave Catching, Jennifer Finch, Keith Morris, Mike Watt, and DJ Lina LeCaro for hot dishes and oral history lessons... come hear our War Stories: Tales of 70s & 80s Punk Mayhem Told by the Perpetrators Themselves!  Buy tickets here
